Rolling Stone's 100 Maverick Movies of the Last 100 Years

True to its rock-and-roll core, Rolling Stone used different criteria than others when compiling its list. Each entry on its 100 Maverick Movies had to "embody that rock spirit of artful defiance." Parts of the list are devoted to mainstream films that still have "juice" and foreign films. Characters like Al Pacino's Michael Corleone and Jack Nicholson's Jake Gittes propel The Godfather trilogy and Chinatown into the top 10.
